Coaching vs. Consulting
What is the difference and which is the right fit for me?
Breaking it down.
-
Coaching is a much more personal process for people who are interested in developing new skills and achieve their goals.
You should expect your coach to help guide conversation, ask questions, challenge your thinking, and develop solutions together.
-
Consulting is more of a structured process that is designed to develop skills and solutions for a specific challenge or process.
You should expect your consultant to provide more answers and display their expertise in a training environment.
-
Many leaders find a greater benefit from coaching rather than consulting because of the personalized experience and the ability to use your coach as a consistent thought partner. That being said, everyone is different and your needs may change over time. Some find that they may need a mix of both services such as a leader who does weekly coaching sessions scheduling a team training session (consulting) to help accelerate their performance.
